An Imperishable Inheritance

"... he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled and unfading ..." (1 Peter 1:3b-4a)

Our salvation, purchased through the work of Christ and applied by the Spirit of God through faith, includes an inheritance that has the character of being 1)imperishable, 2) undefiled, and 3) unfading.

Unlike the gifts of others or the acquirements of effort, the gift God gives (according to his great mercy, v.3), will never break, never be soiled and will never fade in its sheen. In fact, it and we are guarded by the power of God so that neither we nor our inheritance in Christ is ever threated. What a marvelous God we serve.

May your heart thrill to the music of his word. May your soul be strengthened with the knowledge of his joyous protection of what he has promised to you--an unfading crown of glory. May you love him who you do not see and trust in him whose great mercy is the source of all your hope.
