"There is a brilliant child locked inside every student."
Marva Collins (African-American Chicago educator) proved that education is not an issue of money but of standards. Now Walter Williams reminds us again, that the nation is failing minority students not because of money spent but because of standards not kept. Until we recognize that every student can learn we will not expect every student to learn.
The failure of our educational system to do what needs to be done for our minority population in this country, perhaps especially our African American population, is a tragedy. The nation will continue to fail to tap the vast resources of the minority population. To quote Marva Collins, "There is a brilliant child locked inside every student." Our educational system will never find that child if it thinks that money is the answer. All students need to be pushed to achieve their potential.
