Summer Reading List Ideas

I'm starting to work on my summer reading list. So far, here's what I hoping to get done.

1. One part John Piper, What Jesus Demands from the World
2. One part Alexander Solzhenitsyn. (oldest living Nobel Prize winner in Literature) One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich.
3. One part Hank the Cow Dog. The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog.
4. One part Alexander Strauch, Leading with Love.
5. One part Thomas Oden, The Justification Reader.
6. Three parts Stephen R. Donaldson, two mysteries and one fantasy novel.
7. Two parts suggestions from you.

So if you have any ideas about what would be a good read for your pastor, let me know.

I think "When Bad Christians Happen To Good People" and "Bring 'em Back Alive" are a must-read for ANY pastor! They are both by Dave Burchett. For more info, go to: http://www.daveburchett.com

"one part"? what is this - a number of chapters, a multipart book?

I vote for "THe Exemplary Husband" by Stuart Scott - as you laughed at me for having to read it myself for a counseling class - it was awesome.

How about Wilberforce's - "A Practical View of Christianity"?

If you haven't read it already, "Sacred Rythms" by Ruth Haley Barton is great.

These all sound like good options. Halfmom, I don't remember laughing at you, perhaps a small chuckle.

The Book of the Dun Cow by Walter Wangerin, Jr. Great, great fiction. Along similar lines of Watership Down.

Marty,
I just finished the sequel to "The Book of the Dun Cow". Its titled "The Book of Sorrows". It was the single hardest thing I've ever read, but its an incredible, powerful illustration of GRACE in our darkest hour. I can't recommend these two books enough, though it will probably be many years before I read them again. They're simply too draining to read often.

It makes me interested but nervous to pick up his novel of the Bible - "The Book of God".
