Because God is faithful to the promise he made to Abraham and extended to Isaac, Jacob became the continuation of the blessing of God. Twice God visits Jacob with special revelation and tells him ...
"Behold, I am with you wherever you go, ... for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." (Genesis 28:15)
I am comforted by the life of Jacob. But I am thrilled by the faithfulness of God. Truly we have a God who is longsuffering. The apostle Paul knew this. "If we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself." (2 Timothy 2:13, ESV) What incredible joy there is in knowing that God is faithful to his people and faithful to His word.
Jacob didn't deserve God's faithfulness and neither do I. But oh how wonderful it is to know that His faithfulness stands watch over my life. May your heart be drawn to Christ who is ever faithful.
When you stumble, reach for His hand. It will always be there--always.

I hope I can get a recording of the message. We were camping this weekend. During the church service on the campgrounds, we sang How Great Thou Art at the end of the service. We belted it out quite loudly; did you hear us?
I love the title of this blog post. Am I the only one who finds it strangely reassuring that a title of "Scoudrels, Swindlers, and Sex" is used in reference to scripture? Surely there is nothing new under the sun.
